INNOVATION MEETS TRADITION: THE NEW TRAUNFALL POWER PLANT
Hydropower has a long tradition on the River Traun in Upper Austria. The new Traunfall power plant replaces three ageing plants, including the Gschröff plant, one of the oldest in Austria. Modernisation to the latest state of the art also increases electricity generation by 80%. Combined annual generation will amount to 125 GWh, supplying around 35,000 households.
COMPLEX CONDITIONS – SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
In addition to the geotechnical and structural challenges that projects of this scale naturally bring, BauCon Int. ZT GmbH, as lead multidisciplinary designer, is also meeting the ecological requirements of the sensitive Natura 2000 protected area in the Traun gorge. The result is a power plant project that is not only technically convincing, but also allows future generations to continue enjoying the natural beauty of Traunfall.
