Opened in 2014, the Pardatschgratbahn connects the centre of the glamorous resort of Ischgl with the Pardatschgrat, allowing international guests to get from their luxury accommodation straight onto the slopes in no time and in the utmost comfort.
BCI began the extensive design work on the two stations and the tower foundations in 2011. In addition to the structural design and the formwork and reinforcement drawings for these elements, our scope included the detailed steel design and shop drawings for the station enclosures. The main construction works in summer 2013 were supported on site by one of our engineers.
The Pardatschgratbahn brought a major new challenge: the summit station stands on permafrost and is displaced by the movement of the ice. Our engineers developed a concrete structure that can be shifted, rotated and lifted using hydraulic jacks to compensate for the movements of the mountain and keep the ropeway in operation.
To date, the summit station has been realigned to its original position twice and is under permanent monitoring.
